Video-stuttering with direct play of random MKVs [Philips 55PUS7303/12]

I have a problem where the video of seemingly random files keeps stuttering for a split second, every 5-10 seconds.

Seemingly random
because quite large files (like 34GB, 28Mbit/s) play fine,
whilst quite small files (like 1,3GB, 3,5Mbit/s) seem to stutter consistently.

After switching from direct play to transcode, everything runs smooth again.

I’ve had this problem before, running PMS on a Desktop (i7-3770, 16GB RAM, GTX680 4GB) and now once again, after moving PMS to a Synology DS918+.

Has anyone got any idea or similar experiences?

Thank you for your help.

Server and TV both have static IPs.
TV-IP is added to the auth-less list.
Reinstalled the app.
Rebooted server.
-> No change.

Is there any other troubleshooting to investigate this problem?
Or alternatively at least a workaround?
