So I understand that the title of my post is going to raise some eyebrows, but for a number of reasons, I prefer playing back all my content at 60Hz without match frame rate turned on, and then letting my TV (LG C9) restore proper 24p cadence via it’s Real Cinema functionality. This works flawlessly and doesn’t result in any judder with all content that is played via apps that use the Apple TVs built-in media player APIs, however when I turn on the the enhanced player in Plex, there is very noticeable stuttering in all 24p video. I turned on the enhanced player debug overlay, and it is not reporting any dropped frames when this stuttering is happening. Turning the enhanced player off, and playing back the exact same 24p content with the legacy player at 60Hz works flawlessly, no stuttering.
I can confirm I’m experiencing the same thing. Stutter on 4K HDR content when frame matching off using the enhanced player. If I go back to the native player, the stutter is gone. I’d prefer to use the enhanced player however.
Strangely enough if I turn on a subtitle, the stutter goes away completely. If I turn the subtitle off, the stutter remains gone. If I exit out of the movie and restart (without subtitle), then the stutter is back. I can duplicate this over and over.
This is only if I change the subtitle either off or on while the movie is playing. If I turn on the subtitle before starting the movie, the stutter is there.
Video and audio are both direct played with and without subtitles.
