Video tearing and playback issues on LG OLED, 4K HDR 10bit, HEVC MKV

Video begins playing correctly but in under a minute the video stream becomes heavily torn quickly becoming fully corrupted. Resetting to the beginning of the stream temporarily resolves the issue but playback fails at the same second marker after multiple attempts. Scrubbing ahead does not resolve; once playback hits the point of corruption it stays corrupted.

Everything works fine in XPlay, and with all other Plex clients.

Happens with multiple files, all start playing properly and corrupt at about the same point

This might be a known issue with the LG client; you can find other posts in these forums reporting similar issues dating back to 2019. None of them have been resolved, and Plex has not responded to any of them.

Solutions are limited to using an alternative client like XPlay or an external device.

Unfortunate that the LG client is not a priority for official maintenance or support. Clearly this is an issue with an available resolution path since alternative clients are unaffected. Any idea where the source code for the LG apps resides?

Can’t say I have noticed this on my LG OLED C1 with latest client and similar files.

Does it happen on all your 4K MKVs?

Every mkv with an hevc video stream, yes. No problems in the official app with non-hdr 4K content.

Hmm weird, what model of LG OLED?

I can test a sample on mine if you like.
