lack of support in plex for video_ts media, I have too many dvds on the HDD to convert. If you decide to go the extra mile, you’d have another lifelong subscriber. I want a very good media center for my windows HTPC for movies and live TV.
As you can read in the linked support article that’s rather unlikely to happen. Plex have commented several times that they stand by not supporting those raw disc formats/structures.
And you can… just run them through e.g. MakeMKV and add the resulting actual video file. Plex simply won’t recognize/add the raw disc format which requires you to watch forced trailers, wait 20 seconds for menus to pop up…
I think it’s time for me to go back to the ol’ trusty laptop → tv setup.
Aside from music streaming, which has been nice, i’ve been disappointed quite a few times when it comes to media servers and visual media.
How so?
Personally I think not supporting those old disc image formats (or their raw folder structures) gives me a better user experience (plus I don’t have to store all the trash distributors place on their discs).
I have no problem with the older format.
I have a good number of DVDs like this, for archival purposes, or simply because they aren’t in any other format.
Also, using a computer has consistently been more reliable in general, from my own experience, over the years, compared to my recent experience with media servers.
