Video with EAC3 audio wont play

Hello

I have a problem with my Plex server. I cannot watch any video with EAC3 audio codec anymore. I had this problem with a previous version (1.15.0.xx) and the only solution was, to delete Plex completely from my Synology NAS and do a fresh installation. After that, I was able to watch videos with EAC3 again. But now I updated to a newer Plex version and the problem appeared again :frowning:

I saw several threads with the same problem, but none of the mentioned solutions worked for me. I added a screenshot of the logs:

Anybody an idea how I can solve that problem?

Server Version#: 1.15.1.710
Player Version#: 3.83.1

I already did that, it downloaded the codecs but still wont play any video with EAC3.

Here are the logs and the file info fileinfo.txt (3.5 KB)
Plex Media Server Logs_2019-03-09_00-02-22.zip (3.5 MB)

But when it’s a down mixing problem, why did it work before the update? I never had a problem before I updated to 1.15.0.659 and after I did a fresh installation of Plex is worked without a problem.

So I updated to DSM 6.2.1 during the weekend. Unfortunately this didnt solve my problem with the EAC3 codec. But two days ago, I saw that my dad was watching a TV-episode which has EAC3 audio codec. So I checked if I can watch any other series with EAC3 codec and they all worked. I haven’t done anything.

But now, it doesnt work again. What kind of problem could that be??

No, its the same files that worked two days ago and now they dont work anymore. really strange

Can you help me? i have formuler z8 and plex when is eac3 files my server transcode video and sound… can you help?

i have plex app from android store. and server on a Synology Ds216+2 ans yes is that z8

just one update… just to try it i paid one month of plex pass and now the file works but one bit strange…this apears on dashboard
1080P (H264)—Transcode (hw)

but why is transcoding audio and video? should be just audio right?

is there any way fast to convert one video file from eac3 to ac3?

Just want to add a note here that I’m having the same weird trouble with video that uses EAC3 audio. I’ve tried the codec-deletion steps above and I’m finding that sometimes I can get videos playing again, but after my NAS restarts the playback issue recurs. At that point I try stopping the Plex service and deleting the codecs again, but the problem is not resolved.

Sometimes it takes a couple of stop-delete-start cycles to get back up and running, but this time I’m on my third attempt with no joy. I’m on the most recent PMS for Synology version and this started just two updates ago. As with the OP in this thread, the video files in question were working, then suddenly stopped.

I’ve just updated to Version 1.15.8.1198 and the stop-delete-start cycle is no longer working to restore EAC3 playback functionality. I have a single file that I am using to test this with that has worked in the past and is now my go-to for this purpose; it’s not working at all. Any input on this would be much appreciated.

Update: after waiting several hours and trying the stop-delete-start cycle again, playback of video files with EAC3 audio is now working as expected again.

On version 1.16.4.1469 and the stop-delete-restart cycle has not worked, even after a several-hour wait period. Log files show the below over and over when a file with EAC3 audio is played:

I have a relatively large number of files that are encoded this way, so re-encoding is an extremely suboptimal solution. Any thoughts @trumpy81?

I have the same problem again, after I had to restart the Plex service. Before that, it could play an video with EAC3 codec without a problem, now I only see the spinning cycle. The stop-delete-start cycle wont work here too.

The problem is, I have quite a lot files with the EAC3 codec.

Same problem here. EAC3 no sound until I restart Plex server. Using new Plex windows client. Here’s some logs when I played and got no sound, before restarting.

Cant play eac 5.1, anything else plays fine.

I’ve been seeing this for a while as well (over a month) and continue to wait for an updated PMS that will fix this.

Can anyone with Plex chime in and acknowledge this is a known issue? It’s 100% pinned to EAC3/DD+. Everything else seems to play just fine. This is a very popular codec and is likely giving tons of Plex users grief so I’m kinda shocked it’s taking so long to get addressed!

**UPDATE
This was not a bug (for me at least). I recently redid my entire setup and forgot to increase the size of iNotify table (as ChuckPA shows here). Not sure why I’m just now running into this issue, but Chuck’s suggestion definitely fixes it for me. Sorry for the false alarm!

Augmenting:

EAC (Easy Access Encoder) needs at least 1 slot. If the table is full. No Soup for you.
