Videos all vanished!

You need to copy and make a separate folder, named correctly

I’m sorry–I don’t know what you mean. It all worked fine in the beginning, and then I got those error messages on my videos, while the music remained okay. I can’t find the movies folder I need to refill this, and I don’t remember how I did it the first time. I wish this were all more user-friendly. (And, no, starting afresh didn’t help, since I can’t find the iTunes movie folder.) Sigh. I’ll have to re-evaluate whether Plex is right for me.

Ok, I run Mojave and have a huge Library collection but did not originate with iTunes. As I said previous you need to name your files somewhere else / Copy/ link to that folder. It may have worked for a while. I gather you own you iTunes movies collection or did you import them?

Plex works well when prepared correctly.

I own the movies. (I’m trying a dedicated folder method now.) Plex worked well…until it didn’t.

Okay–loaded the iTunes movies this time from a folder I had created especially for this purpose. I’m now getting the error message: “File contains DRM”

https://support.plex.tv/articles/201128288-why-don-t-videos-from-itunes-amazon-etc-play/

Okay…but it USED to work. I USED to play those movies just fine on PLEX…

NEW ERROR MSG: An error occurred trying to play “Philomena”.

Error code: s1001 (Network)

Just found some DRM removal software. I’ll try that approach. I do own the movies.

Okay–the conversion software was too pricey. It’s a shame I won’t be able to access the movies I own through PLEX. It did work at one time, and then it stopped. I am frustrated and disappointed.

I am almost certain that it never worked with any movies or videos that had DRM. Plex has never been able to play back apple DRM content. Apple doesn’t allow it.

How long ago was that?

Highly unlikely, sorry

Some FYIs…

  1. Plex will definitely not play iTunes DRM movies. It does show the audio/video tracks as protected, so easy to spot which have DRM. If you try to play one of the movies you see a “File contains DRM” message. See pictures below.

  2. You can use a .plexignore file to tell Plex to skip the DRM protected movies. See Excluding New Content with .plexignore. Example below.

  3. Plex is fine with iTunes naming for movies. It adds resolution info for HD movies, but is otherwise the same. Example (no DRM, ripped from disc & transcoded w/ Handbrake):

.../Movies
     Animal House (1978)
          Animal House (1978) (1080p HD).m4v

Movie purchased from iTunes with DRM

Plex error message when attempting to play DRM protected movie
DRM2

A portion of my .plexignore file.
Located in iTunes movie folder: ...../iTunes Media/Movies/.plexignore.
