Videos freeze on both Plex player and via Plex web on Windows laptop, other clients fine

Server Version#: 1.21.0.3616
Player Version# (Windows): 1.24.0.1483-714cba36

Today, 11/25.

I had been watching a video from my Plex Media Server via the Windows Plex Media Player on my 64-bit Windows laptop successfully for about 12 minutes. At some point in there, I’d stopped, maybe exited the player, and on re-entering the Plex Player, I think I saw a toast note about some update happening on the server (which didn’t seem to be evident when I looked at the Server installation itself), but I let it go.

Later, via both Plex Media Player client and the Plex.tv Web player (in Chrome), when asked to play a video, the Plex player loads the play screen, shows a frame, jumps ahead a couple of frames or so, then freezes the video there, showing an unending spinner, with no more video playing. I tried this with 2-5 different videos, and across reboots of that 64-bit Windows laptop.

This Windows laptop is attached to the same WiFi network as the Plex Media Server running on a Windows desktop computer, which is hardwired to the router.

The router has a gigabit connection to the ISP.

The laptop speedtests (in Chrome) to 400+ Mbps from speedtest.net, so it’s not a WiFi limitation from the laptop.

Both an Android phone and an iPad attached to the same WiFi network and running Plex Media Player client and sitting on the same desk as that Windows laptop successfully play the videos. This seems to me to eliminate the Plex Media Server or the Windows Desktop computer running it as problem sources.

It seems to me that the problem must be something on the laptop, something that affects both the Plex Media Player client and the Plex.tv web player, but that does not affect Chrome’s access to internet bandwidth otherwise.

The Plex Media Server is up to date.

The Plex Media Player was just updated today, too…I think but I’m not sure that I’d updated that prior to successfully watching the first 12 minutes of the first video (via the Plex Media Player).

What could I try next? What could be wrong? How might I try to fix this?

Cheers,
=> Edwin
