I’ve seen threads about this being “fixed” but I can’t watch most things through my browser because it skips forward randomly. I’ve tried to disable the automatic quality setting but nothing seems to help. The Plex server I have also seems to crash a lot due to the transcoder or the transcoder will hang if I leave a video paused too long.
This has happened since day on with Plex server running in a windows 10 environment. Should I rebuild with a Linux base? Do the Linux based servers tend to be more stable?
Does it happen in other apps when it is transoding? or only web.
I realize many other app can direct play and may have no problem but if you force a transcode by lowering quality maybe just to check iff it does the same thing. I’m just trying to understand if an issue with Plex Web or the transcoder.
Oh so this is skipping when direct playing in web? is this with all files that can direct play. ( Plex web cannot direct play much so I assumed it was transcoding when skipping)
In Chrome I can direct play pretty much anything from 480p H264 to H265 4k HDR but with Edge everything transcodes. I first noticed it with newer 4k content but I also noticed my older x265 files stutter and aren’t watchable anymore. I just download a new different version and it works fine. Very weird.
This is the same issue for me as well. For direct play (where I’m not transcoding anything), it hops forward seemingly only when playing 4K content. I see it with mp4 and mkv (h.256); both Brave (1.66.113 Chromium: 125.0.6422.76) and Chrome (125.0.6422.113) browsers (haven’t tried others). Works on the Android mobile app without issue. Enabling transcoding (e.g. @1080p) prevents the jumps. I’ve also tried Settings > Debug > “Use alternative streaming protocol for video playback” (which oddly, plays audio but video is black – even after restarting and trying other media). Note, also, that Settings > Quality > Automatically adjust quality (Beta) is disabled.

@all: Anyone have other thoughts on things I can try? Likewise, @dfawcett29_gmail_com, I’m hoping I don’t have to transcode everything to avoid the issue. …especially since all devices are internal-only on my 10gbps local network.
