In Plex Web settings, when “Use alternate streaming protocol for video playback” is disabled then the video will randomly skip ahead. If I enable the setting then the video plays with black screen. If I then change the Quality to Convert Automatically the video will play - I assume this is forcing a transcode, but not sure.
I guess ideally I’d like to see the skipping issue fixed, or at lease the screen not be black when the skip fix is enabled.
I realize this is a known issue since the setting seems to exists to prevent skipping, but I’m hoping this can be looked at more. I feel like it’s been this way for years and I’m constantly, manually changing the quality all the time.
By skipping you mean that it would fast forward a few seconds right? I know about this. First try your other devices. This happens for me on Plex Web but not on Plex Desktop. Try your phones too.
Go search Reddit, as this problem has been around for at least 5+ years. I couldn’t get to the bottom of it as well, and it’s only happening on specific files, and the spot where it happens to me is fully reproducible. I’ve tried remuxing file already, couldn’t figure it out. Seems like a full re-encode is what’s necessary.
Right, it skips forward a few seconds. Unfortunately, Plex Desktop isn’t a good UX for me.
Due to vision issues I can’t have the video full screen. When windowed, Plex Desktop has an almost blindingly white title bar that can’t be ignored.
It doesn’t seem to pick up on windows UI scaling (or maybe the base size is very small) - everything is a bit small compared to web.
A couple other issues I can’t recall right now due to not using it recently.
I agree that this is a Plex Web issue that has existed for a long time and does not happen on other clients. I’d like for Plex to look at it again or point me to a post where they explain it a bit more and perhaps also explain why it can’t be fixed at all; if that’s what they have decided.
