Videos only showing first or last chapter

I’ve noticed that some of my videos are not generating the chapters correctly. When I view the .mkv in mediainfo I can see the chapters, but on Plex it will only show the first chapter or the last chapter.

Upon further investigation I noticed that the files that had, e.g. enChapter1 as the title of the chapter, the would not show up in Plex. Here is an example:

For files without the en the chapters show up in Plex. I even went through and changed the first chapter of one of my .mkv’s to have a language of “not applicable” in mkvtoolnix and for some reason this make it so Plex can see all of the chapters…

This might be coincidental and me resaving the file through mkvtoolnix resolves the issue.

Is having a language specified for the chapters an issue in Plex or am I doing something wrong?

I have a hunch that the ability to assign a language to chapter markers is one of those MKV-features which are so rarely used in the real world, that it was either:

  • simply not tested during development of Plex
  • Plex decided to ignore chapters with a language tag, because it could also mean there is a second or third set of chapters in different languages. Which would lead to a big mess if they were all ingested into Plex.
