Videos taken with iPhone don't play - stutter immediately

Was just trying to watch some 1080p videos taken with an iPhone 8 in the Plex Mac app and I can’t get a single video to play. They stutter immediately, consistently and indefinitely. They work fine when played in VLC. Anyone else seeing this issue?
