View videos on TV based on folder, not file name

Hi, When using Plex and viewing on a streaming device, it shows me all the files broken down into recently added, continue watching, All…

Thats all well and good. But I like the way I have all my media divided into folders, subfolders. I don’t necessarily like sorting through 1000’s of videos, when if I look at a folder breakdown I would only see the ten primary directories, then search from there.

I have searched and googled, and cannot find a way to show file directories (instead of files) on a non-PC. I can sort this on my PC, but not on my streaming devices… ROKU, TV, phone, tablet, etc.

Can you please assist me with how to show directories on streaming devices instead of the files from all directories on one main page?

in pretty much all clients, there’s 2 types of views for each library. they used to be called “discover” and “browse”… and in all clients you can switch between them.

in the recent releases, Plex is putting more emphasis on the discovery mode (on deck, recently added, last released, best unseen movies, last watched…). however… there should always be an option to switch to the browse mode that shows your entire content organized by name…

if you don’t want to browse your shows by show/season/episode, you can also switch the display mode to “by Folder” (usually this is one more option next to poster/grid view, list view or summary view).
I couldn’t find a recent example of the view selection on a mobile or tv client… but it’s usually pretty much the same as in Plex Web.

As the above shows there is a “Browse by folder” available on many clients.

On the Roku you can access it by selecting the library and then “Browse” and then you will find “Browse by Folder” as the bottom entry.

Hope that helps some.
