As I rip some of my personal Blu-Ray discs for use on my Plex server I’m presented with many audio options:
-TrueHD 7.1
-DD Surround 5.1 English
-DD Surround 5.1 Spanish
-DD Surround 5.1 French
-DD Stereo English
-DD Stereo English (yes listed twice for some reason)
-6 subtitle tracks (forced not forced and different languages)
Also, I have the option to name these audio tracks but this does not seem to show up in any players…
I wanted to quickly see the impact of these decisions in the player but I cannot see this easily, might you have some suggestions? In the old days I could use Quicktime Player via Mac but this software dies not like my MKV files. VLC does not show the data so I was trying to use Plex but I don’t fully comprehend Plex just yet. I appreciate your help–thanks!
Showing the track titles in the Plex clients is a long standing feature request.
(One of) the stereo tracks could be
containing audio commentaries
‘audio description’ track for visually impaired persons
simply a stereo mixdown for compatibility reasons
The best way to determine which it could be is to examine the cover of the Blu-ray.
Desktop players who allow you to switch those tracks quickly during playback would be VLC and MPC-HC (Windows only).
You can use these to determine which is which.
I recommend you to name those tracks anyway. You will be able to see the names when looking at the Plex media info.
Okay, I’ll look at VLC once again. I did not notice a way to view or select the various audio options. Also this renaming that you mention where will I be doing that renaming? Where/how best practices…?
