How do you combine home movies and photos into the same media folder and Plex will show both media types at the same time ?
You can do this with the Amazon Prime media player where it allows you to show and view a mix of media types but I can’t get this to work in the same folder using Plex.
Any advice or help is much appreciated
Thanks
This is my setup. I have a general home movies and photos folder like this:
-
Home Movies
Movies and Photos 1990 – then there is a series of sub folders to cover years
Movies and Photos 1991
Movies and Photos 1992
Movies and Photos 1993
Movies and Photos 1994
etc…
Movies and Photos 2000 – then in the years there is a series of month folders
Jan 2000
Feb 2000
March 2000 – finally each month has a mix of home photos and home movies
April 2000
etc…
Each month I have a mix of AVI, MPEG home movies and JPG photos
The problem is I don’t think Plex is good at handling the above folder / sub-folder setup with a mix of movies and photo file types in a series of year/month sub folders.
There are over 2500 media files (mixture of AVI, MPEG, JPEG etc…) so putting everything in one folder would be a nightmare to maintain and sort.
Can anyone advise and confirm this or have I missed how to setup plex in a better way to display home movies and photos ?
Thanks
One solution to the above which would require Plex to add a small feature to their media files release dropdown.
Currently in the Plex sort dropdown box it has the following options:
Title
Year
Release Data
Critic Raiting
Rating
Content Rating
Duration
Progress
Plays
Date Added
Date Viewed
Resolution
Birate
If Plex could add 2 more options called sort by “Title Date Earliest” and “Title Date Latest” at the bottom of the dropdown list which would then examine the title for a date created e.g. Visit to Bristol Museum - 21-05-05.jpg Then plex would use this date to help sort the photo or movie on the play list. Whats very important is the date embedded in the file title would not be used in the title when displayed on the plex menu but instead it overwrites the date details in the plex thumbnail.
I hope this makes sense
Photo libraries support both video and photo formats, so if you create a new photo library and point it to the location where your files are stored it will pick up both.
The default view will be the Timeline (newest to oldest items), but you can switch to the Photos view which will follow the structure of your underlying folders.
