Question:
Are Smart Collections that you have set up to be randomly sorted supposed to randomly sort the movie list when the collection is visible on the Home screen?
Currently, I am not seeing these collections randomly re-sorting after they are initially displayed on a player. However, they do initially randomly sort, but that sort order never seems to update to another random order afterwards. This is happening on Plex Web, Plex Windows App, Plex for Android and Plex on Roku. I have tried closing the apps but it doesn’t seem to change.
My desire is to have a Collection of classic movies that randomly sort its movie listing on my Home screen each time you view the home screen, or at least each time you open the Plex app.
The “Randomly” sort does function this way when viewing the collection itself or sorting the entire Movies view using “Randomly.” It just doesn’t work on the Home screen.
From what I’ve experienced, my random movie list (based on a smart collection) will occasionally update itself – I was under the impression this will be redone every few hours. Updating the underlying library (e.g. scanning new files or updating metadata) will cause the collection on the home screen to be refreshed too.
Hmm, I’ll keep an eye on how often it updates, if at all then. Thank you.
I was under the impression it would update upon each viewing of the home screen, since the randomly sorted collections update their listings each time you view them.
UPDATE: Yes, I do see them now updating occasionally. I can’t find a reason for when they decide to update, but they do which is good.
