Before what transpired 2 days ago, I had 2 TVs working just fine with Plex over my home network. My Vizio is wired over ethernet and my Samsung is wireless.
What happened: I violated one of Comcast’s policies and ran into an issue with Comcast and an annoying pop-up they were injecting into my App(s). This made my Plex App unusable.
What I’ve done since the initial issue: I called Comcast and straightened things out, so I no longer get the annoying pop-up. Plex worked fine after this. I also decided to invest in a VPN, Mullvad, which allows for port-forwarding so that I could still use Plex.
My problem: With my VPN turned on, my wired Vizio E-50C does not seem able to Connect to my server (desktop Win 7). The wireless Samsung works great.
My partial solution: If I turn off the VPN, start Plex on my Vizio and let it connect, and then turn the VPN back on once I see my library then Plex continue to function. So, the problem seems to be with the initial “handshake.” I’ve followed all of the directions provided by Mullvad, but to no avail. (Side note: I’m not so sure that their netsh command actually works; no matter what I do I can’t seem to get Remote Access to work.).
My attempts at a complete solution: Reset TV to factory settings and re-link Plex. I was able to do that but it did not solve the problem. So, I am wondering what can be my next step. Do I need to mess with the TV’s DNS settings? Do I need to open up more additional ports in my Windows Firewall?
Thanks for any help in advance.
