Plex has stopped working altogether

Ok so this started with one of my apple tv’s not being able to access my server after i updated to Mac OS Sierra. Tried restarting my computer/server (mac mini) to try and just reset everything, no luck. Uninstalled Plex and reinstalled, now im not really able to get anything going. I cannot claim my server, says i need to log in but then i cant even log in. Here is what im seeing few screens

Out of curiosity, is there a reason you’re not using the current version of Plex Server?

The current Plex Server version is 1.2.3.2914-1ff0f18

Yes, i updated and im still having the same issues, still cannot claim my server.

Are you logging into the server remotely or locally?

Like are you using an address like http://127.0.0.1:32400/web ?

Or is it on a remote server?

@ntrevena Logging in locally, says server is not claimed, when i try and claim it it spins out then tells me to sign in, i sign in and it tells me something went wrong signing in.

I had a similar problem at one stage. I was screaming and kicking my server (not literally of course…) thinking there was a problem server side.

I don’t know if it’s related, but I found out it was my browser causing the issue. For some reason the browser didnt like the cookies and refused to use local storage, so when it received a response from Plex, it rejected it and reset the login.

Could something similar be happening to you?

Also, if you could replicate the problem again, make a note of the time, and then attach a copy of your server logs, that would be really helpful.

interesting, thanks for your help man, ill try another browser now- (update) nothing happened : /
Can i kick my server now @ntrevena

Bugger! I was hopeful. :))

Can you post your server logs? I may not have the right expertise, but there are a lot on here who do.

Maybe they can provide more answers. But logs are kind of a requirement :frowning:

You can find them under “Help” on the settings page of your server. Click on the “Download Logs” button, and just attach it to the post

@ntrevena is it safe to post logs? that doesnt have any IP info right?

The IP addresses (if any) should all be internal, so not really a privacy issue.

You can untick the “Allow Plex Media Server tokens in logs” option on the general page, that should help sanitize the logs a bit though.

You can also look through the logs yourself to make sure they don’t contain any personal information.

@ntrevena awesome thanks, how should i post them? noticed it was a bunch of diff files

If you downloaded the zip file, just attach the zip directly to your post using the “Attach File” button. It’s just above the area you write in, on the toolbar.

It looks like a page with the corner bent over.

Here ya go @ntrevena !

@ntrevena how would i post a zip file on reddit?

Sorry buddy, I’m not too sure about how reddit works. If I recall, you have to post your file on a host (like drop box), get a sharing link, and post the link on reddit.

I’m just looking over your logs at the moment. I cant promise anything, but if I cant see anything, others might

Thanks man ! @ntrevena

Ok, found some interesting information in your logs.

First and foremost, the biggest issue I can see, is your server is not able to connect to plex.tv. For some reason, it’s not resolving correctly

WARN - HTTP error requesting GET https://plex.tv/users/dfd9bb86cc822f7f/avatar?c=1472618805&size=34 (0, No error) (Couldn't resolve host 'plex.tv')

Is it possible that your server has some form of network block? Maybe a firewall, or double NAT network?

Here’s someone who had an issue with a double NAT setup, and how he resolved it: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/636820/#Comment_636820

I do have a VPN, could that interfere with just a local connection>?? @ntrevena
sorry i keep tagging you, i dont know if you can see it each time i post lol

That is a distinct possibility. Depending on your VPN method, all of your DNS requests may be being piped thought the VPN. I know OpenVPN does this.

If you can, could you perhaps disconnect/disable the VPN for the purposes of testing?

You can always enable it again afterwards and try and troubleshoot from there. The point is to try and eliminiate where the issue could be.

If we pear it back to the bare minimums, and it turns out not to be Plex at fault, then we’ll know it’s something to do with the VPN.

All good mate

WHAT THE HELL HAHAH. It was the damn vpn! but Ive never had an issue with that before! Is there something i need to change that would allow that??
@ntrevena thanks for all your help man

EDIT: I dont know how but that fixed it, syncing all my data now, lets hope that it stays fixed!
