Vizio TV unable to connect to local plex server

Server Version#: 8.12.4.22902
Player Version#: 5.9.1

Just purchased a new Vizio D-series TV and can’t get the Plex app to connect to the local Plex server. It does connect because I see it added to the connected devices list. I have reset the app, manually entered the IP of the server, and have multiple Rokus, phones, and laptops connected so it is available and working.

Thanks!

Hi @ccgarner71,

Is your server accessible outside your local network (from other devices)?

Not presently, but I did enable Remote Access for a few days to see if that would help but it didn’t.

Could you try changing SettingsAdvancedPrefer Insecure Connections to On same network as server and make sure Allow Insecure Connections is set to the same, then restart the app. If that doesn’t work you could try setting them both to Always and restarting the app.

Thanks! I will make those changes shortly and let you know.

Small update to original post:
Server version: 1.21.3.4021

Ok i tried both options for both settings and it didn’t help. Still shows that the server is currently unavailable.

Hey thanks for the suggestions! Unfortunately, we are having this problem. Any other ideas of what could be the cause?

I don’t have any suggestions yet. I have a few questions, and then I’ll ask the rest of the team for some ideas.

When you tried the settings I mentioned, did you also have the server’s IP address added to Manual Servers?

Is the server signed in?

It does connect because I see it added to the connected devices list.

What do you mean by connected devices list?

Still shows that the server is currently unavailable.

When you say that it shows this, where is it showing this?

Thanks! No, I removed the Manual Server setting since it wasn’t working.

Connected devices list… Plex Server-Settings-Authorized Devices.

When I open the Plex App on the Vizio TV it opens but when I try to select my Server it shows the the server is currently unavailable. I also have a button to retry but it doesn’t help.

Thanks again for you help! I really appreciate it! Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for answering my questions.

So one last thing to try would be changing SettingsAdvancedPrefer Insecure Connections to Always, make sure Allow Insecure Connections is set to the same and add your server to Manual Servers then restart the app.

I’ll see what ideas the others on the team have.

Ok, tried that but no changes. Still not connecting. It does connect to Plex and we can see web shows. But it doesn’t connect to our local Plex server.

I do see it connect in Console when I look. Not sure is that helps.

What’s the IP address of your TV (it should be in the TV’s settings in NetworkNetwork Information) and what is the local address of your server?

Hello! Here is the IP information

Server: 192.168.0.253
Vizio: 192.168.0.190

Any update to this?

I was able to finally get this working by adding the Vizio TV’s IP to the “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth” (Server/Settings/Network).

Sorry for the late reply. I’m glad you got it working. I did ask others, but nobody had any ideas at the time.

No worries. Hopefully this will help others in the future. Thanks for your assistance!
