Voice Control (google voice) with RasPlex

Hi,

I recently watched this video <http://youtu.be/RjTj0ymhbBw> and would like to set up something similar at home with the main focus of voice commands to control RasPlex. Lighting and other home automation controls may possibly happen at a later date if I can get the basics going first.

Essentially I'd say the command in google voice:

1) " Play a movie" which would start the Plex app in the movie section (if possible) or start an xbmc compatible app.

or

2) "Play the movie Pulp Fiction" which would start the movie Pulp Fiction on the TV the PI is connected to either via the Plex or xbmc app.

If I can get to the stage when I say "Play Game of Thrones Season 1 Episode 1" then it plays on the TV that would be even better.

Since RasPlex is based off XBMC from what I've read the Plex HTTP API controls will no longer work and the replacement is the JSON-RPC API controls.

I've looked at the app tasker to accomplish this however at first look it seems to have a steep learning curve but if I can get the HTTP API controls <http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/HTTP_API/Control> working then I could Play/Stop/Step back etc which would be a more convenient solution.

Having said that if tasker can trigger JSON commands to the Plex or XBMC app and Play a movie or TV show then I'll go with that. At this stage I haven't seen anyone who has accomplished this so not sure if it will even work.

If anyone has done something similar with RasPlex or has any thoughts or ideas on how I'd accomplish this feel free to post and share.

Thanks

Great idea, have you seen this?

Yes I did come across it during my searches and I do like the idea. Having said that I'd like to keep this localized to my android phone to perform the set tasks.

The less hardware needed to implement this the easier is would be to maintain and perform this task (in theory).

Has anyone figured out how to do this yet? Are the HTTP API's even still working?

I'm playing around with it now. You can use tasker with XMLHttpRequest.   Next stop trying the Plex API commands.
