VOSUB sometimes not showing on Nvidia Shield

This has been happening for years on every up-to-date release of the Plex client on the Nvidia Shield TV (2015?)

Some lines of VOSUB format text don’t show at all and others show ‘late’ but finish when they should, showing for less than a second.
The issue on the Shield persists with the same lines of text each time.

The subtitles work perfectly on any other client I have tried, including my Android phone, Desktop browser and TV. All direct stream.

Please tell me what I need to provide to have this fixed.
