Running Plex Media Server / Enabling Remote Access with a VPN

Server Version#: 1.22.3.439
Player Version#: 4.51.3

Hi,

I have Cyberghost VPN. I’d like to run my Plex Media Server so that my friends can stream via remote access while the VPN is on. I don’t need to run the traffic through the VPN, I just don’t want to have to turn my VPN off every time they want to stream.

Is there a way to run Plex Media Server and a VPN such as Cyberghost at the same time, either through or not-through the VPN (I don’t care which).

My plex media server runs fine when my VPN is off, but I can’t get it to run with my VPN on.

The only forum post on it I could find is from 2013 and the solutions in it didn’t work for me.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

If you use vpn for torrenting, you can use Haugene. This way only the torrent (what matters) will be routed through the vpn.

I don’t use it for torrenting (I don’t torrent at all, usenet is faster and better imo), I just use it for general privacy.

What OS are you running your PMS on?
I looked at Split tunneling (<-what I do but I run my VPN on my router and split tunnel it that way) but the only literature I see from CyberGhost is Split Tunneling for Android.

I’m on Windows 10.

VPNBypassSetup.zip (406.8 KB)
Try this, works like a charm for me

What is this and what does it do ?

Thank You

It bypass your VPN software and connects your PMS to your ISP IP address.
With this you are be able to access your Plex server remotely and the rest is running through your VPN

The VPNbypass does not work with keepolid VPN Windows 10 app. Plex remote access is still blocked

Try to give your PMS a manual Port and forward it in your router.
I have tried it with openvpn, openvpn connect and Private VPN. It’s working for me with VPN bypass on Windows 10.
