Wanting to move my Plex Server from Windows 10 to a Mac Pro 2013

I’d like if possible to complete this without losing playback/watched/unwatched status for my users, is this possible? I’m unable to find anything relating to this

I used the Support Article linked above for a Mac to Mac transfer and it works. But you’ll need to READ and UNDERSTAND it first. And plan on some downtime for your server. The part where they tell you to Zip the files takes a LONG time depending on your server. And then you have to Unzip it as well.

You went from Windows to Mac with those instructions? What did you do about all the settings stored in Registry on Windows?

I went from Mac to Mac. I don’t know if there’s anything specific for Win to Mac. Might tag a Ninja to ask for specifics beyond the tech note.

you will need to manually copy the advanced settings values from the registry to the preference file on mac which is a plist file ~/Library/Preferences/com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist

Thanks I’ll give this a shot.

Apart from the Registry > Plist, is there anything else special I need to do that’s different from changing server between same OS?

The biggest thing is the change of file paths for media. Since Windows uses drive letters and Mac does not.

after copying over DB and launching server you need to add the new location they are on Mac ( don’t delete the windows path) scan everything again so it finds everything on the mac. and if all OK then you can remove windows path. that is covered in the article @CWallace linked

Perfect, thank you so much!

I forgot to mention that if the only thing you want to do is copy over watch states from another server rather than “cloning” the server, info on that is here https://support.plex.tv/articles/201154527-move-viewstate-ratings-from-one-install-to-another/
