Watch recording in progress? Workarounds?

Just confirming that there isn’t a way to start watching a recording program midway through. I always enjoyed watching football games with a delay (so I can skip some commercials in the first half) but plex doesn’t seem to allow playback until the recording is complete. I guess the other option is to start live playback on my apple TV and hit pause. But (at least on apple TV) it will eventually go to sleep and the recording in progress is lost.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone knows if this functionality is planned or if they have found workarounds for it.

No way to currently setup a recording and then start playing it 30 to 45 minutes later. This is pretty much a standard feature on every DVR package except for Plex unfortunately. Supposedly it will get added sometime in the future.

Plex isn’t great for sports use right now. Key features like updating the EPG while the game is in process to make sure you record the end of the game properly isn’t featured nor updates to the EPG for programs that come on after sports programs. Makes life hard for program on or after MLB and/or NFL games.

Last week I was about 50% successful in NFL recording with Plex. The Greenbay game with the delay was a killer and even adjusting the padding didn’t help once recording starts.

Seems the way to get more visibility to this is to go and like this OP’s post in the feature request area:

I’ve read this many times, but it hasn’t been my experience, including right now.

I run my PMS on a Windows 10 PC. Hdhomerun connect on my router via ethernet. Playback via ShieldTV.

Right now I have 2 things being recorded. One of them started at 19:00, the other at 20:00. At 20:15, with both recording, I selected the one from 20:00 and started playback. It did start from the beginning and allowed me to skip forward a few minutes (commercials).

I fully expect one of the streams to stop recording, but we’ll see what happens

So we were able to watch the DVR-ing show while using time-shift features, and a second stream was being recorded at the same time and that show seems to have fully recorded - it shows up as 2hours long… So apparently it’s been integrated already !?

@KarlDag - How does this capability presents itself in ShieldTV? Windows PC web browser and also iPhone playback does not provide a way to play a recording that is in progress, and if you go to the guide and select the program that is being recorded, you can only play that program live.

I went in the “Program guide” and selected the currently being recorded TV show. It started from the beginning and allowed me to FW.
