Watch together going away in app

That doesn’t mean it isn’t the reason I decided to support their development.

Awful decision, use Watch Together regularly with my wife and when I’m stuck in hospital. And framed like it’s an improvement for our benefit, too!

Livid. Hoping a 3rd party can implement something similar, I don’t want to have to switch to JF, especially having a Plex Pass.

Boo.

I don’t usually have bad things to say about Plex, but this is honestly very frustrating and I hope they change their minds. I used this feature a lot even with family home movies and when my wife travels. Might have to start looking more into Jellyfin. I run them side by side so it will be easy to make the switch to Jellyfin and spin down my Plex Server.

massive loss for plex users… this is a downgrade not an update

Also voicing my disappointment if Plex removes this feature.

I use it all the time to watch shows with my SO.

What’s the point of removing a feature that already works and users use?

Keep it an option!

I never would have bought Plex Pass if I had pegged you guys to remove features that I use often. If watch together is not in the stupid new “Plex Experience” as you call it then I will be contacting support for a refund, migrating all my users away from Plex, and warning everyone anytime Plex is mentioned to use an alternative like Jellyfin which does include a Watch Together feature.

Would love for them to explain - “We appreciate your support and understanding”, when they haven’t explained why they have removed this feature. Is it too hard to implement in the new apps? Not enough time to implement before pushing them to replace the current apps? Etc.

As always, Plex has always been extremely tone-deaf to their users and horrible at communicating!

The biggest kick in the balls is actually framing it like it’s for our benefit. They obviously knew how important this feature is or they wouldn’t have made that bullshit email.

My wife is disabled, and I’m constantly on the move with my job, this is the only way for us to spend quality time together when I’m remote. I hate you plex.

Typical platform enshittification. “We will remove the feature and you will be happy about it.”
Pisses me off.

Wow, literally the only reason I use plex over competing systems. Looks like I’ll have to look elsewhere.

I paid good money for Plex Pass so why can I not use this feature in the future? Extremely disappointed with the decisions Plex has been taking lately. It’s time to look for alternatives

This seems like a rather negative change, I purchased the life time plex pass because this is a feature I use weekly and wanted to support the ongoing development of the application. But instead my lifetime purchase seems to have funded the removal of the only feature I use plex for…

Not one to reply on forums but also throwing my voice in here saying: watch together is a god send when I’m trying to watch something with my overseas friends.

Please keep it around and actually work on it in the new “app”, it’s one of your better (and actually works) features.

Upset enough that I had to log into this forum account to comment. I use Watch Together with my friends all the time. It’s the reason we use Plex.

We’ve spent two years rewriting our apps from the ground up to boost our development speed, which should enable us to bring new features to you more efficiently, across more platforms, with much higher quality than ever before.

If that’s really true and not just hype, then y’all should prove it by implementing Watch Together in the new apps before launching them.

Watch together brings my family together that is spread out across the country, giving us all something we can enjoy. It helps bridge the gaps of space and ages to give us something we can all participate in together.

Even though this feature didn’t require Plex pass, if you paid for Plex pass to support the company, ask for a refund and explain why. If enough people bombard them, I’m sure their Dev team will hear about it

This is an incredible stupid decision, Plex is going from bad to worse, first was the privacy issue where your friends got to see what you watched, this should have been na opt in, not an opt out feature.

Then, it become public that Plex knows exactly what we have in our personal libraries and with no way to disable that.

Then this, I used Plex and bought the Plex pass only so my friends can use Plex on their mobile device and we could all watch a movie together, now with this gone I don’t see a reason to stay with Plex, as someone who greatly values privacy and open source, this company is no more what it used to be.

I will finally give jellyfin a try and refrain from recommending Plex anymore, the privacy issues and removing a very important feature seal the deal.

It is very clear now that Plex went from a full open source project aimed to the community to a for profit organization that stepped on the people who brought the Plex pass and helped them grow, a year back they even blocked all users that ware using hetzner VPSs due to “pirating” content.

Watch together is one of the vital functions I and friends need and use with Plex. If this function is deprecated I will first try not to update and if that is not an option I will switch to another platform that supports a similar feature. This is a horrible decision and either there should be a “Plex 2” and the old legacy app with this and other features that are dropped stays around OR you release it when you have actual feature parity.

Stop taking away functionality and making your product actively worse.

Taking away this feature is an absolutely horrible decision.
