Watch Together Stopped Working

Just noticed similar issues.

If I invite from the Shield, and the other user is on the Android phone app, it won’t work. Tapping the notification simply crashes the android app, and if the person enters the “room” it says connection to the server was lost.

This worked fine last year.

Normal playback works.

Edit: Shield to Shield did work, however the “skip intro” feature did not work. When clicked, I jumped forward then got sent back immediately and got “re-synced”.

Also the “rooms” did not go away on the Shield. Nor did they go away when I tried to delete them. They vanished later.

This feature used to be rock solid. Now it feels sort of glitchy.

Yes we have also heavy glitches on the Shield.

When starting there is a great chance that we will get a black screen, with the only the audio playing. The other participants only get the circle of death.

After some session leaving and joining the movie starts eventually.

When pausing the Watch together session and resuming afterwards, the audio will switch from passthrough to PCM Multi In (because Plex is transcoding to OPUS) and the video will loop the same approx. ten seconds over and over.

Leaving the session and rejoining, starts the movie from the beginning.

Selecting a chapter will again switch the audio and will again loop the video.

Scrubbing all the way to the point where we leave worked, however.

So yes: The feature is extremely broken atm.

I mean at least you’re able to get them in a session. Mine keeps switching to OPUS transcode for no god damn reason.

I have been having this issue for the longest time on my SHIELD. It would be really lovely to have a proper conclusion to this since I use this feature often to watch movies and shows with my girlfriend and boyfriend who are on opposite sides of the country.

Still an issue. Any word from Plex staff on this?

Issue is 100% back and still NOT FIXED many months later. This is getting beyond a joke now.

Another day, another instance of me having my loved ones all press play simultaneously to stream multiple streams of the same movie from my library because the watch together feature is utterly broken. On my Shield, it simply false starts with an “unable to play media” error, and on my LG TV (trying to play nice with a HisenseTV) it just stutters endlessly (with mine trying to direct play, and with the Hisense trying to stream in 4Mbps 720).

Meanwhile, when we both just press play on the same file, no problem whatsoever.

So, what’s the status on someone even troubleshooting this issue. It has such potential to be a game changer, but it doesn’t even work in the simplest terms

It seems a little odd to ask people to report whether or not the issue is fixed and then ignore all the reports that say it’s not fixed, it’s still broken, for a period of months. I wonder if the issue is that the topic is marked at solved so no one with the capability of caring or doing anything is checking the thread? Just wild speculation. It’d be crazy if they knew it was an issue and just didn’t acknowledge it.

Justina, can you please mark this thread as NOT FIXED, as the problem is still very much not fixed.

Logs here regarding Shield Transcoding to Opus CONSTANTLY.

Not that I think Plex is prioritizing this issue…I have ACTIVELY stopped 15+ people from buying a Plex Lifetime pass over Discord due to the lack of proper response from Plex on this. Very annoying. It seems subtitle colors are more important to you all!

i literally just stopped myself from buying a lifetime pass because i couldn’t get watch together to work well at all right now. As well no ability to watch playlists and having to manually re-do each episode is a pain

Spread the word. No one should be buying a Lifetime pass when this very important feature is broken…it stinks

Just tried Watch Together yesterday for the first time but the invite notification doesn’t show up on TV.
Tried on both FireTV and MiStick (Android TV).
It shows up on a phone though.
All latest app version installed on all devices.
Notifications and all permissions enabled on all devices,

Still nothing…
