Watched Checkmark VS Unwatched Orange Corner

Had to give up my rollback, now 3 out of 4 clients have the ugly redesign. Only the iOS app left. With the ridiculously slow rollout I had my hopes up that they’d keep being slow.

This just makes me feel like a beta tester, getting random inconsistent features. It’s not like it’s hard to have a feature flag and make the change across all clients at the same time.

I’m on Team Orange Triangle, and I’d like to see the Orange Triangle icon restored. Also, even if you’re going to implement a Watched Checkmark, it should be visually appealing. The example below looks better than Plex’s current Watched Checkmark, although I’m not a fan of this design.

Yes yes yes‼️

Unsure if this is intentional or not but with Plex for Android 10.10.0.5843-beta on my shield the snot green watched tick is GONE and the unwatched orange corner has returned.

This is exactly how I feel. I don’t usually complain too often, but I agree, I hate the green checkmarks!

Plex makes me laugh, when they promote the yellow triangle in their feature section but that doesn’t reflect the reality does it. Plex knows their green check mark is not pleasant, otherwise they would fix their picture on their landing page!

You bring your media, we’ll do the rest.

Brilliant observation

The yellow triangle is still on some apps.

My iPhone app for example.

The green tick is less obtrusive than the yellow triangle.

I don’t mind it anymore but it does need to be consistent.

However, the new UI is supposedly coming.

Interesting. I would say that statement is true if you don’t watch anything

Take this screenshot as a small example. The movie Lisa Frankenstein, which we have not watched yet is the only clean poster. The rest are all covered by IMO unwanted plex icons/indicators.

EDIT: Updated with a better example.

Absolutely, especially for the TV show library. Previously, the posters of the shows I finished watching would become clean. Now, the TV show library will never have clean posters again, which is really terrible!

That’s the real issue.

The useful function of badges is to mark items that need your attention. In the case of a Movies / TV Shows library, this would certainly be unwatched items.

Using the “Watched Checkmark” is a silly design decision. It clutters the UI and desecrates
your perfectly curated posters.

A tiny little icon in the corner of a large poster.

There are far more obtrusive items in Plex to be concerned about.

As I said your perceptive is interesting.

For me, I have 4,188 movies of which 1,365 have not been played. So I now have 2,823 posters with icons over double what I had before this change was made. Also, as @x1ao4 notes above TV libraries are even worse with EVERY poster having some sort of an icon on it. Horrible design decision.

My music library is so clean in comparison with no icons on anything

I just installed the newly-released 10.11.0 client on my Fire Stick 4K Max.

On the home screen I get green checks on watched content, with a tiny black square with white text for counting unwatched content. But if you go to an actor bio you get a larger orange square with black text for unwatched episodes, and no green check for something watched:

You would think we could be consistent here.

Option to turn off watched/unwatched entirely.

I know what I’ve watched.

Do it. Now.

Team Orange - all the way!!

Please please either go back to the orange triangle on unwatched media only or give us the option to just turn the whole watched/unwatched state off completely. The green check marks are ugly and having them on watched media seems counter to how I want to view my media library.

I don’t want to have to roll back servers/clients or change the watched state in ALL my media to unwatched or jump through some other hoop to fix this. Please just get rid of it, this is really annoying - I hoped it would have gotten fixed by now because it’s not worth the headache.

This just rolled out in a recent update for me on my firesticks in the UK, why o why would you completely reverse the system we have been using for over a decade. The wedge was a far superior indicator. Just make it an option, mark media as played (tick) or mark media as unplayed (wedge). Have some class and celebrate the reason you chose the wedge in the first place, separating yourselves from the streaming masses. This stuff is why you have a loyal user base in the first place. Bonkers decision in my opinion.

While true, it’s been supposedly coming for well over a year now, right? One would think they could’ve rolled it out and made it consistent by now. A small interface change, slowly rolled out for over a year. It’s so insane.

I’m not convinced it’s coming, not until it’s actually somewhat consistent.

I thought it was only mentioned a few months ago.

A complete UI change.

Was mentioned a few times in external articles - site-wide redesign characterized as “significant.”

Ok, my bad. It’s only this part that’s been supposedly coming for over a year.

More than a bit ominous when Plex announces a complete redesign…
