I am unable to begin in-progress DVR recordings from the beginning. When I select “Watch from beginning” the playback begins at the current time. However, if I try a minute later, playback begins from the initial attempt’s time. Once the recording completes, i can playback with no issues.
This happened on iOS and Samsung TV app on the most current server version.
Is this a known issue or would my logs be helpful?
This is just another example of the many frustrations of Plex. Don’t hold your breath thinking it will ever be resolved. The best you can do is wait until the program has ended to view it successfully; that is, if Plex doesn’t just delete it.
It happened to me while trying to join recording in progress. Logs are attached.
I should also note that I wasn’t even presented with the option to begin from the beginning. When selecting the channel from the grid, I was taken directly to the live video.
Confirming that I have the exact same issue. For now I’ve downgraded to version 1.15.1.791-8bec0f76c, which doesn’t seem to have this issue. Not sure if there are more recent working versions than this, it’s just the first one I tried.
I have the same issue, if I try to watch a program which is being recorded still, and I select “ from beginning” it starts playing part way through the program. Once it is completed recording, no problem , but as a DVR this is hopeless , and it defeats the point if you can’t watch something till it is completed recording. Setup is win10 Plex media server, Apple TV client , HD home run quattro.
This issue for me seems to be limited to Apple TV only. Playback on the iPad seems to work ok and will play from beginning while still recording a show you wish to start watching. It seems many other have the same issue, so if I can’t be fixed it is not much use as a DVR, and there are plenty of others out there.
This problem persists on several platforms. I’ve given up on Plex for live TV and DVR for as long as this is broken. Plex doesn’t appear to be concerned about this as there are ongoing issues in the forums. Don’t waste your money on a Plex Pass.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, “if your able to reproduce this”… HAHAHAHAHAHHA
This bug has existed over a year, with hundreds of posts …
Its better just to not say anything, than pretend to have actual concern.
Your comment was posted in April, still not even an attempt at a fix. You have no credibility here.
I think I fixed the problem, or one of them. I too never even got the prompt to play an in progress DVR recording from the beginning. I went to settings library and checked off the box to re-scan the library when any changes are detected (instead of at a pre-determined interval). I now get the prompt and am able to watch in progress DVRs no problem. My best guess is since the library wasn’t scanned automatically plex didn’t know there was a recording in the library for you to go to. I really hope this helps some of y’all b/c it was frustrating me to no end.
Most people have the problem where you can try to watch from start. It just doesnt work. The exact problem you experience depends on what your client is. Since yours works, it might be useful to post what you are using for PMS and client device(s).
Good point. I’m running the media server on my desktop computer, running windows 10. My client device is a Roku ultra. I also doubled checked it worked by watching an in progress recording on my laptop via the web interface. On a side note I just recently switched my setup over from WMC with Xbox 360s as extenders on windows 7 so I’m fairly new to plex. One thing I’m really disappointed in is that plex is unable to wake the PC for pre-scheduled recordings. Therefore I must leave the computer on 24/7. I’m pretty environmentally conscious so that annoys me. I’m thinking of building a raspberry pi and running the plex server off that since it uses next to no electricity. If I do, I’ll let y’all know how it turns out.
Since you are running Win10, can you try Plex Media Player as a client? My PMS is also a Win10, but a Lenovo Tiny M710Q. Uses very little power. I run Android TV as primary clients (NV Shield and Sony TV.) The Android TV will work on the 1st FF click. The 2nd FF click advances the video to the end then the video locks up. PMP every FF click starts video from beginning. Both of these happen 100% of the time. I have a Roku TV in the bedroom. We dont really use it much. I tested on that and it seems to work.
