Watchlist movie resolution conundrum

For each of my Lord of the Rings trilogy movies, I have 4 variants: Extended and theatrical, 4K and 1080p each. I have them in my Watchlist. I select one, and it shows Extended 4K and Theatrical 4K…neither of the 1080p editions are options. I select Extended and then it hints at a 1080p version, but I then have to select […]/Play Version to see both the 4K and the 1080p.

Why oh why can’t the Watchlist item page show the resolution options along with the editions?
Why oh why can’t the Library item page show the resolution options as buttons like the watchlist does? The inconsistency of the UI drives me crazy. I shouldn’t have to go three “clicks” deep (each “click” being presented differently) to find the variant I want.

Versions (different from Editions) have always been a pain to notice that there are multiples of. To play them, you have to go to the […] menu and select the version. As far as I know, unless you go into this menu there is NOTHING visually to tell you that there are multiple versions of a movie.

My opinion would be to use the [Split Apart] menu option, and have a whole separate entry for each version. I think this should cause Plex to show all 4 resolutions.

I believe that Plex did it this way, as they expect that people make multiple versions just for player compatibility. This way, Plex should auto-select the version for Direct play based on the player itself. If your player is 4K capable it will select that, otherwise it picks the 1080 version.

Plex used to put a badge on the movie poster telling you how many versions there were but they took that away and nobody can explain why. That may work, that defeats my point where I just want one poster you click on it and you get a list of all the additions and variations of resolution. Oh well, Plex is more interested in attracting new blood with their fancy live streaming options than they are about treating their older customer.
