I got a “mixtape” as a Kickstarter reward, and made the tracks each have the same album title and album artist, but the files are in different formats: some are in mp3 and some are in wav. Plex is considering these to be different albums.
I know I could convert the wavs to mp3, but is there a way I can force Plex to consider this to be the same album?
Quick 'n Dirty:
Merge the two albums

proper way:
WAV doesn’t support embedded meta tags
so you must use filenames and folder structure to indicate to Plex which album they belong in
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200265296-Adding-Music-Media-From-Folders
or
convert the WAVs to FLAC and add the metadata
That worked. Thank you!
(as I’m lazy I just merged them; I think being in a Compilation directory was throwing off the file structure approach)
compilations are just albums where the Album Artist is (usually)named ‘Various Artists’
No real difference to real albums.
