Way to remove "recommended" tab from a library?

Server Version#: 1.32.7.7621

It’d be nice (I personally think) to have one checkbox that completely disables all “recommended” tabs in all media libraries across the board. Short of that, maybe it can be done on a per-library basis? Or a per-client basis? (I’m hedging here - anything to make it go away would be nice)

Suffice it to say “some feature to make the recommended features poof and disappear” would be awesome.

Thank you!

That’s a pretty dumb stance. The recommendation engine is only useful if the user is using Plex as a replacement for Netflix etc. I’d suggest a huge chunk of users don’t use Plex that way and just want a way to access their media.

It’d be a trivial feature to implement and you bury it in the advanced settings. Easy and doesn’t distract from Plex’s attempt to compete with the big boys.

Unless you are telling your web browser to erase its cookies every time you close it, Plex Web will remember the last-used library tab. And so do most other Plex app types.
So you will always land on the Library tab, once you’ve selected it on a particular device.

Right. Exactly. The current solution is a hedge.

Browser cookies do in fact involuntarily get deleted from time to time. Users use different clients on multiple computers and devices. Those devices get updated and changed over time.

“So you will always land on the Library tab, once you’ve selected it on a particular device.”
This categorically not true and only happens in fantasy junior-developer land.

This should be a server-side setting.

What is the purpose of having a blank recommended tab if you don’t use it? I like a couple of the Home Screen options but not enough that were forced to keep blank recommended tabs in the library. I’d rather remove the options than keeping unpopulated library tabs on the screen.

I get the client is off limits as far as controls as Plex wants unrestricted access to our users to market/hope to monetize. But this is blank. Nothing, taking up more space and can be confusing to the less inclined. Esp after cookies are cleared ad that’s where it lands when you open the movie library.

Plex, this is permanently ruining user engagement for a lot of novice users. They don’t see the “library” tab and assume that the recommendations screen is the only way to access the (few) media listed there. They simply assume the Plex server lacks adequate media, and stop using Plex after that.

Please allow server admins to disable the recommendations tab for individual libraries, or define the default tab for users.

The recommendations tab doesn’t make sense anyway, it’s just duplicating what already exists on the home screen. and effectively masks off 90%+ of the available media from casual users.

You’ve already said that these changes won’t be made, as evidenced by this mod post., but it’s clearly desired by the users for years - as evidenced by this recent Reddit thread with 500 votes, and even this 4 year old post with 400 votes.

What is a realistic step users can take, short of “cancel plex pass memberships” that would influence Plex to change course, accept the criticism and take action?

+1 for this.

I just spent a good while trying to work out why my media wasn’t showing up - turns out I was on the Recommended tab instead of Library. I only use Plex personally and know what I want to watch, so the Recommended tab being default just gets in the way.

“Recently added”… yeah I know. I added it myself five minutes ago.

It seem crazy to me that I can’t define “Library” as the default

Plex is currently undergoing the wonderful enshittification in the pursuit of money. Get used to it or switch to a different service. I’m making the switch soon.
