Server Version#:? Newest
Player Version#:
This whole thing is way too complex for me. I just want to put all my videos, movies, etc in one place on my computer and be able to play them from my other computers. Now I have 2 servers with the same name listed. WHY? I added some videos from downloads into the same place my other videos are in and Plex won’t recognize the new ones. They are in the same place??? I’ve tried all the suggestions I could find on the subject to no avail. Is there some simple way I can fix this. I’m exasperated!!!
You perhaps have 2 different Windows user accounts, and you did start Plex under both accounts at least once.
Logout of your current Windows user account,
then log in to the other, and then log out again.
Now log in to your normal ‘work’ account.
You can delete the surplus server here,
but make sure you are deleting the right one!
(you might wanna change the ‘friendly name’ of your correct server to something unique, so you can tell the two server instances apart)

As for the missing media:
You have two options:
- follow the Plex media preparation guide and name your media files correctly
- create a library of the type ‘Other Videos’ and point it to your video folder. But doing so will ose you the nice formatting and the automatic gathering of metadata for your media.

OK, I think we’re there. I only had one user account so that wasn’t an issue. Then, somehow I got one of them to see the new files. I don’t know how I did that. Perhaps I created the “other videos” library without really knowing or realizing what I was doing. Then only one of the identically named servers had them and the other did not. I used your suggestion of renaming the one with all my videos. Then I was able to remove the other server. So now I have only one server with all my videos. Perfect!
Figuring out all that stuff about “naming” the videos is just too much to fathom. If it’s a ‘video’ and it’s in the “Video” folder, that’s good enough for me. And it should be for Plex too.
Thanks for your help.
