I can’t figure out how to do a manual update. After I installed the WD App, it said to do a manual update. I downloaded the update for the Western Didital My Cloud EX2 Ultra and it loaded to my downloads file on my PC. What is the process to update this download to the My Cloud?
Another concern I have is relative to Plex actually supporting this device. I sent a message to Plex and they responded…“Western Digital pre installed it on that device without our prior approval or knowledge.” and “We don’t currently formally support the EX2 Ultra, but that some users have reported that My Cloud Mirror Gen 2 package available on the downloads page worked for them.”
Either way I simply can’t figure out how to update…can anyone help?
Hi @owenocean
don’t think about manual update, take a look into my signature how to update the PMS correct. You need to download the latest binary by using the link in the header, as described in my short how-to.
Thank you so very much for your quick reply.
Sadly, when I sign into my Plex account I see (in the top left corner under the icon of the house) a rotating circle and the statement" Looking for servers…"
Under that a statement…The server My Cloud EX2 Ultra needs an update.
So I don’t see the orange strip with the statement “download now” as indicated in the first step of your instructions.
Unfortunately, the installation package from Ex2 can not be installed on the Ex2 Ultra

That’s correct. EX2 cannot be used to update EX2 Ultra. Currently, there isn’t an update for the EX2 Ultra version. Although, once logged into PMS setting there’s an update available notification. Plex team should tweak this feature and to not confuse EX2 Ultra owners.
Will there be an update for ex2 Ultra?

I’m not sure but you can actually update to this latest version by downloading the My Cloud Mirror GEN2 update and it’ll work on EX2 Ultra. Just go to settings and then Apps and click on install new app as if you’re going to add a new app. Then choose to manually install and point it to the My Cloud Mirror Gen 2 .bin file update you downloaded. Give it a few moments and you will be prompted that PMS is already installed and would you like to re-install. Choose yes to re-install and upon completion you will notice that your server is now updated to the latest PMS version 1.2.6.2975.
How much better is the new 1.2.6.2975 version compared to 09146.1621? Much better! Transcoding problems seem to have went away. In addition you can actually configure PMS to your upload speed. This manages streaming to multiple devices much better. Overall, I find the update, although Mirror Gen 2, to be stable and runs smooth on EX2 Ultra. The only downside that I can’t seem to get to work now is that I use to use another drive that I have to transcode temporary files to. The latest update doesn’t allow me to use that drive, even after pointing it the specified drive/folder. It’s not a problem considering now the new update transcodes flawlessly thus far.
Hi All
Plex Media Server v1.3.2 for EX2 Ultra is officially available within plex-tv/downloads, here is the direct link:
https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.3.2.3112-1751929/MyCloudEX2Ultra_plexmediaserver_1323112-1751929.bin
No need to use the workaround with Mirror Gen.2.
Have a nice day. Because after up-dating of the server in my cloud ex2 ultra, to version 1.3.3.3148 some informal clients, such as XPlay and PlayPMS ceased to work, it is necessary to make rollback to earlier version of the server. Prompt where it is possible to download the version set by default?
