WD mycloud Home clears metadata?

Server Version#: 1.12.2.4964
Player Version#: N/A

All metadata was erased from my server on this WD mycloud home NAS when I turned it off and back on. Is this normal for the Plex server version running in the NAS? It is kind of annoying having to wait for the metadata to upload and refresh again every time. Just want confirmation from PleX that this is so. I bought the NAS because it supports transcoding but this makes it unusable in the long run. I appreciate your candid opinion and fact based reply. Thanks.

  1. Have you tried the latest public PMS Version 1.14.1.5488?
  2. Is there a reason you’re turning your NAS off?

I use a MyCloud and just leave it on and no issues with leaving it on all the time. Also if I’ve lost internet or power, I still have not lost any Metadata.

Thanks for the tips. I think I can’t install any new PMS version in the NAS as this has to be done by WD as per the documentation. How can I install a new version?

The reason why I need to turn it off is in case I have a power outage or need to move it to do some maintenance. Don’t want to go through the work of rebuilding the metadata. I normally leave it on all the time now but if it erases the data may look for a different NAS instead of keeping this one.

Just to confirm what you have mine is a WD MyCloud Home.

I have the older MyCloud where it doesn’t have the PLEX app on the NAS itself. I don’t believe the PMS would run well on it and just have the video files saved on mine. I use both a computer and a Nvidia Shield as my PMS.

We had storms this week and lost power. I lost my entire metadata that I put in for all my movies. I retested and yes everytime it looses power or turned off it resets ALL my metadata even if I went in and put it in manually and Locked it. I have done ALL the little fixes other user have recommended etc. and NONE of them have stopped it from deleting when turned off. I went to WD forum and they recommended coming here. Other posts I’ve seen recommend going to WD to fix it. so basically NO ONE is working on this? is that the case? Did I WASTE all of the money I put into plex pass and my server?

Check your server Settings/Library and verify the Empty trash option is unchecked after every scan. I believe I’ve read this before that it causes the metadata to disappear and have to rebuild all the time when power is lost, etc.

Seems like this is one of those things that falls in between WD and Plex. Is either the server deleting everything when it restarts or the firmware in the drive initializing itself to a fresh state after you turn it off. I have experienced the same frustrating event over and over.
I happen to have a Seagate Personal Cloud which does not do this. It can’t transcode but at least it keeps the metadata intact. Maybe you can return this one and get a Seagate server or r any other but WD. I am thinking on dumping the WD server as there seems to be no ownership from any side to fix or improve the situation.

I already did this… I stated I tried all the little fixes people had on here… Thanks anyways

yeah that’s my next step thanks… makes me mad I spent this much money already…
