wd mycloud home. My music is in a folder but I can't get Plex to see it

I have a new WD MyCloud Home. I have uploaded all my music to a “Music” folder in the WD MyCloud Home “Public” folder but I can’t get Plex to see that folder.

Hi @sorby999

all Plex content has to be uploaded into the folder named “Plex” with the Plex icon in it. Below this “Plex” folder you will find detailed sub folder for Music, Movies, Home Movies and Pictures. Copy your music into the music sub folder to make it seen by Plex on the My Cloud Home.

Check this out as well: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200265296-Adding-Music-Media-From-Folders

Thanks to you both. My music is presently on my MyCloud Home in a folder called Music under the only place I found I could make new folders which is under the Public folder. That way it works fine with Sonos in that way. I used Windows Explorer. Do I have to upload it again for Plex to see it?
Using the web MyCloud facility I see a folder called Plex but it has nothing in it and no subfolders. Do I have to add my music again? Sonos is more important to me than Plex.

OK-I have now found in Windows Explorer the Z drive with Plex and its subfolders as JoergAndreas mentions–thank you. They only appeared after I ran the desktop app. However, it looks like I have to copy my music there. I’ll do that and then try to get Sonos to see the music in that new location. It would be impossible if I have to keep two copies of all my music on WD MyCloud Home.

Correct, this drive letter is provided by the software WD Discovery. This software maps your Personal Cloud (account) as static drive letter to enable you to access your My Cloud Home from whereever you are.

They only appeared after I ran the desktop app.

The Plex folder will be installed during the inital setup of the Plex App from within the “Services” section of the My Cloud Home User Interface. You can acess the UI by using the My Cloud Home App on your Smartphone or by using the browser based UI via home.mycloud.com. Plex setup will automatically create the Plex folder tree I refered to in my first posting here.

However, it looks like I have to copy my music there.

Yes, please. The Plex folder tree cannot be changed. And (right now) you cannot add additional source pathes into the Plex library.

I’ll do that and then try to get Sonos to see the music in that new location.

It will work, I’ll tested this by myself. Please let Plex do its job before you start enjoying your music on your Sonos. Depning on the size of your music collection, it may last a while until Plex has built the whole envorinment.

It would be impossible if I have to keep two copies of all my music on WD MyCloud Home.

No need for this. Your media content only has to be copied into the correct location.

OK - it looks like I have to have two copies of all my music on my WD MyCloud Home. That’s crazy! Plex can’t see the plain folder of music and Sonos can’t see the mapped drive of music Plex generates. Surely you guys can solve that puzzle!

Sonos is more important to me so that’s going to take priority. Oh…and with Plex I have to go to a lot of fiddling to make sure Plex doesn’t override my careful Composer/Artist/Coverart etc metadata (all my music is Classical).

The folder tree created by Plex is a normal folder tree. It should have been seen by any kind of software too. There are no special user rights or access restriction present for or in the Plex share.

Thanks JoergAndreas for your help. My Plex now works fine but I can’t connect it to Sonos. The Sonos instructions say “From the Music pane click Add Music Services. Select Plex, and then click Next.” but I don’t see Plex amongst the Services. I have an ASUS AC-68U router with a WD MyCloud Home with Plex installed and my music added to Plex. From my Windows 10 laptop and I can see my music via the Plex web app and I can see the music also from Plex on my IPhone but nothing related to Plex shows up on my Sonos controller. Any ideas?

Edit…Later: With some help from Sonos I found that the way to connect Plex is through their Music Services, but the location has changed. It’s not in the root Music Services but is nested under Sonos Labs (which is one of the “Services”). So…fixed for the time being. Many thanks folks!

I never got such folder!
I have PR4100 and I have following problems:

  1. When Enable/Configure Plex App - it does not create Plex folder and sub-folders as per documentation
  2. it does allow me do add different shares I created in the Libraries, however does not scan anything :frowning:

Hi @sorby999

If you need to stream your music from this NAS to iPhone just check our free app called Evermusic cause it has WD My Cloud Home support
