I’ve been using Plex for years, without issue. Recently, though, it’s no longer able to find my Western Digital servers (MyCloud and MyCloud EX2), suggesting: “MyCloud EX2 is currently unavailable”. This seems to have been since upgrading them to more recent firmware versions (currently 1.41.8.9834). When I revert back to a previous firmware version, Plex is able to find the servers again, but then my iOS devices on which I have the app installed tell me that the server version is outdated and therefore they can’t be accessed. So, I’m kind of stuck. I’m not especially technical, but with Plex I’ve never needed to be, until now. If anyone can suggest a fix, I’d be incredibly grateful as Plex is currently unusable. Thanks.
This also happened to me, and I’m embarrased to say it was my inattention that stopped me resolving it for over a fortnight!
Log into your MyCloud NAS then select Apps, on the left you’ll see a list under Installed Apps - select Plex Media Server this will bring up the following
App Name: Plex Media Server
Version: 1.41.8.9834
Installed on: Tuesday, 08 July 2025 12:49:32
App Settings: [CONFIGURE]
Run App: [ ON ] - [ OFF ]
Remove App: [ UNINSTALL ]
You will most likely find the ‘Run App’ has been toggled to OFF after the firmware update. Turn in back to ON and you’ll be back in business!
