Web App page 'Refused to Connect' - no longer able to use plex via web app

Server Version#:1.19.4.2902
Player Version#:Web app via pc browser

The Plex server appeared to suddenly die:
– playback of music on Chromecast Plex app stopped
– network attached Plex folder suddenly disconnected on my PC
– the WebApp in my pc browser wouldn’t refresh

Plex Media Server was still running on the NAS (Resource Monitor -> Task Manager and Package Center -> Plex Media Center both showed it running).

Didn’t know what else to do so did a shut down of the NAS.
After shut down, powered the NAS back up.

Same problem. Plex Media Server is running, but trying to launch the WebApp in the browser simply returns “This Page Isn’t Working Right Now”.

Amazingly, the music and movie content play just fine via Chromecast Plex app!!

Then tried:
– Stopping the Plex Media Server
– Uninstalling it
– Manually installing the same version

Same results - web app doesn’t work, but Chromecast Plex app clients work just fine.

Have been googling and reading a lot over the past several hours, but can’t find anything that looks like this issue.

My whole setup is about 3 weeks old. Finally decided to spend some retirement money and time to try out a NAS (DS1019+, RAID 6, 30TB) and now Plex.

After working hard at this for the past three weeks with no unsurmountable issues until now, I’m finally stumped…

Thanks for the quick reply!

Note that step 1 of your instructions is EXACTLY what I am currently unable to do. That is what this ‘topic’ was complaining about.

There isn’t any way to ‘log out’ of the local server via a web browser because the page doesn’t respond.

Even so, I will attempt the additional steps and report back.

Regards

Back up now.

Resolutions Steps:

  1. Stopped Plex Media Server on the NAS. (It’s my only server.)

  2. Logged out of the plex.tv website. (Nowhere else to log out of.)

  3. Renamed the preferences xml file to .OLD

  4. Started the Plex Media Server on the NAS.

  5. Waited about 5 minutes.

  6. Opened Plex from http://MY_NAS_IP:32400/web

  7. Logged in. This then started down the road of first-time-setup (pick some preferences, add libraries, etc.) which I DID NOT WANT TO DO.

  8. Closed the tab in the browser

  9. Stopped the Plex Media Server on the NAS.

  10. Deleted the newly created preferences.xml file.

  11. Edited the original preferences.xml file and changed secureConnections=“0” to secureConnections=“1”.

  12. Started the Plex Media Server on the NAS.

  13. Waited about 5 minutes.

  14. Opened Plex from http://MY_NAS_IP:32400/web

  15. Showed me as being logged in, but couldn’t connect to the server. I logged out, logged back in and A MIRACLE OCCURRED!!

To make a long story short, I had been playing around with the NETWORK - SETTINGS via the web app before everything went south.

I suspected that I had done something bad to a setting (since everything else seemed to be working fine) and had unsuccessfully googled if there was a way to change configuration settings via command line or a PREFERENCES file.

And your original post gave me the information I was originally looking for - how to modify configuration settings NOT via the web app.

Of course, I could have ‘done the right thing in the wrong way’, but all’s well that ends well!!

Thanks again for your quick response!!
