Web interface said PMS was already up to date but a newer version existed

Server Version#: 1.23.3.4692

An update came out on June 14th but when I went into PMS and tried to update through the GUI on the 16th, it said I was already up to date.

However, I wasn’t up to date and was able to download the latest version of PMS from the website and manually update to the latest release version.

Yeah Plex, now I’m up to date. :joy:

Why does updating PMS through the GUI lag behind the actual current release by a few days?

Surely it should have access to the exact same version that’s hosted on the website?

I normally just click on update indicator on the Activity Icon and have Notifications set up from Announcements (Watching) Plex Media Server and other.

Some new versions are not marked for auto-update immediately, but are only made available for manual download.
Just for the possible case, that there are suddenly many users reporting that this version has a serious bug.

It’s like tipping your toe into the water, to test if it’s too cold.

It also depends on which “update channel” you have selected for your server.

“Public” will only remind about versions which are listed as “available for all users” in the release notes Plex Media Server - #438 by emilybersin
i.e. no “beta” versions.
