I’ve just bought a LG OLED TV and am very hapy with it - except for the sub par Plex client.
It’s a very outdated version.
My question: Is there any chance that the magicians at PlexHQ could give the WebOS version a tiny bit of love? I’m not asking about monthly updates like the Android version. Just an update every year or so would be super nice.
I am a user of both, but would prefer a true Plex client that matches my other devices. Also, I would definitely like to have access to the latest features, especially the News capability.
Xplay is nbot without it’s issues. I have a large number of old TV shows (SD Definition and AVI formats). Xplay can fail to play some of these. Also, Xplay also does not support the latest features.
+1 vote for Xplay. It actually plays everything in my library without a hitch.
What latest features are you talking about? News? You really want to read the news on your big ass lounge TV? Really?
The News service is V good as it it shows video based news from a number of sources. Also, just because you do not think it suitable is not a good reason to leave it out. It is clear that the Plex developers have spent alot of time and effort on this new feature.
Are their plans to update the LG Plex App? It is seriously missing a lot of significant features that are supported in newer versions.
All my 4k HDR TrueHD x265 videos are also being transcoded to x264. It seems pretty crazy that the LG Plex client is this out of date compared to other apps for other TVs.
since the latest update it can direct play HEVC 4K HDR movies (B7 OLED), same as the webos native DNLA (Pictures & Video) app or Xplay.
still force transcodes if there is subtitles…, but at least there is progress!űi actually like the app now. still the UI is a mess, but it functions properly.
I finally see an update to the official dockerhub plex tag as of 10 hours ago (2/20/18) for plex server version 1.11.3 despite this officially being released on 2/15/18. I’ve just upgraded and will take a closer look at server upgrades and hopfully HEVC 4k HDR will work correctly… However the plex client for LG does not appear to be updated and still showing a 09/07/2016 within LG Content Store and thus is still missing various features and updates compared with newer versions as previously mentioned.
the LG store date is not valid.
they update within the webos application, so it doesn’t go through the LG store.
just try it. check the version in the app. it won’t be from 2016
