WEBVTT subs on iOS crashing transcoder?

Was getting a “conversion failed. the transcoder exited due to an error” on my iPad when attempting to play a certain file. Looking at the logs, I found the following:

ERROR - [Transcoder] Decoder (codec none) not found for input stream #0:2

So, looking at the video file codec, I see #0:2 refers to “WEBVTT subtitles (wvtt)”. So, I turn off the subtitles and the video file worked. I tried the same video file in Plex for Windows with the subtitles on and it worked fine (and showed the subtitles).

I have the same exact problem using web player. I manually updated codec header for the subtitles track to S_TEXT/UTF8 from S_TEXT/WEBVTT and subtitles are now working OK.

No idea if S_TEXT/WEBVTT is a legit header and Plex isn’t parsing it correctly or if it is an encoding problem and header should’ve been S_TEXT/UTF8.
