Weird Remote access issue

Hello everyone, I am having a weird issue with remote access. I have the correct ports open on my router, I double checked with a port checking tool. Both ports 10712 and 32400 are open, I even DMZ’ed my server as well just to double check. Plex is showing my server is accessible from outside network. However all my remote connections are “indirect” and have a 2mbps limit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW I am using the verizon fios ISP router at this time, its a g1100

I had your other topic on this issue bookmarked to respond to when I had a chance. In it you said:

So, you’ve moved back to your ISP router from your new Nighthawk XR1000, and now you’re having the same issue with it as well? Has anything else changed with your configuration, other than swapping the routers in and out? What is the result if you disable relay in:
Settings -> Network -> Enable relay

Also, you may want to clear you DNS cache on the client system in case your public IP address has changed and the client has the old one cached. If the Chrome client you are testing is on Windows, you could try ipconfig /flushdns from the command line.

Finally, is this a remote client you’re testing, or is it a local client which is being forced remote due to some other issue (DNS rebinding protection)?

I had to do an RMA on the nighthark, there was something defective with the wifi so in the mean time I connected my ISP router back

nothing has changes to the best of my knowlege

the remote client is a friend that lives 4 towns over so he isnt connected to my network. locally I have no issues with a local connect. Had my phone, smart tv and a nvidia shield all playing at the same time using direct playback

my friend just connected to my plex server and now is showing a secured connection but is still capped at 2mbps

I checked my quality setting

I also checked my upload speed limites

Not connecting via Plex Relay. Connections via Plex Relay display as Indirect, not Remote.

Have your friend check the bandwidth settings in Plex Web (Chrome) on their PC. It must be checked on their system. You cannot configure it remotely or server side.

Settings → Quality → Video Quality.

The default for remote streaming is 2 Mbps.

FYI, that is the default for all Plex clients. If your friend uses a different Plex client - FireStick, AppleTV, mobile phone, etc - they will have to make the same configuration change on every device.

that might be the issue, just tried with my phone using cellular data

Since it’s showing as “Remote” now instead of “Indirect” as it was previously, it is no longer using relay. In that case, since your server isn’t imposing any bandwidth restrictions, it is likely your friend’s client which limiting the bandwidth. Have them check the “Internet Streaming” quality in their Plex Web (Quality) settings and ensure it is set above 2 Mbps.

Looks like I was a little slow in my reply.

Just restart the Plex server or logout from chrome and re-login.

that didnt work, my friend looked at his quality setting and it was set to 2mb (720p) he changed it to 20 and its working as it should now
