Weird white squares all over the place with latest version

I haven’t seen any white squares since moving to Fedora 41 + Plasma. I spent some time trying to make it happen too.

Don’t do this @stack_overflow. Don’t re-ignite the spark of hope in a long forgotten tale of devastation and misery  It’s been almost 2 years since I’ve posted this.

I repeat:

2! years!

Haha. Well if I do eventually see some white squares it’s still happening a lot less.

I also have this issue. However, and very oddly, it appears massively diminished after I restart my Plex server.

Same issue here, new ubuntu 24.04 install. Very annoying, as multiple white squares pop up on every single screen. Makes plex nearly unusable on linux

I have but it has been less. It still occurs on both my desktop

Running Fedora 41 + KDE Wayland on a AMD CPU and NVIDIA GPU running their proprietary drivers.

And on my Framework 16 running the same Fedora 41 + KDE Wayland on AMD CPU and GPU.

Hope springs eternal @SartBimpson

I’m over here on Mint in my X11 prison seeing the same white squares in Plex. This is while I’m plugged into a docking station and using Intel GPU in power saving mode.

Hey all, I am having the same issue on Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon 6.4.8 LK: 6.8.0-54-generic. I am using a GTX 1080 using their proprietary drivers. I am dual booting this and windows 10 on this device, and am only seeing this on the Linux install. Since I am using the same hardware for both I think it’s pretty clear that this is a Linux specific problem.

I’ve pretty much given up any hope that Plex gives a single crap about this. I mean we are closing in on 2 years. Just installed Emby along side Plex on my NAS and backup NAS, and am dabbling with that now. We’ll see what comes of it. If Plex wants to put priority towards their streaming offerings, that is fine. But it just means I’ll go and subscribe to Emby and throw money their way.

Still no white squares. Not a one. I don’t know what about my setup is making the difference but it’s something.

I feel your pain. Was wondering if the white boxes were just an issue with my setup (see below) and a quick search revealed this thread. I really regret paying for a lifetime PLEX Pass. They got our money and then abandoned us. Waited years for a desktop Linux client while they focused on adding features no one asked for. Got super excited when I saw the flatpack desktop client, then disappointed when I ran into issues (white boxes regardless of where I am in the app). I’ll probably migrate everything to Jellyfin. I definitely won’t be giving a project hundreds of dollars upfront again. They’ve worked on everything but the Linux client.

I am also using Linux Mint and having the same issue. I came here looking for a solution too.

This issue is finally resolved for me! Wish I could say I did something to fix it, but I didn’t. Seems to have been fixed with some recent updates.

Plex Client 1.108.1
Plex Server 1.41.4.9463
System:
Kernel: 6.8.0-55-generic
arch: x86_64
Desktop: Cinnamon v: 6.4.8
Distro: Linux Mint 22.1

This worked for me.

In the app, set your Video Preview Thumbnails at largest setting by moving the slider to rightmost setting.

(optional) collapse left menu so you can see more thumbnails since they are bigger now.

After doing this, I don’t see those white graphical glitches.

Does it work for you?

Thanks @vector_zero. Reducing the size of thumbnails and reverting to an earlier size fixes the white squares temporarily. After restarting, they reappear.

I made my thumbnails largest size.
After testing it, those white glitches didn’t come back any more.

I’m using Linux Mint LMDE 6.

Later on, I tried again, it’s the same issue. nothing I did can get those white glitches to go away.

The issue is intermittent so really I don’t think anything anyone is trying is going to fix it long term. I suspect it is an issue with the highlighting and hover features in the Plex UI. Something doesn’t like it.

If you use Plex HTPC, it works without any issues. but it is full screen and basic if that’s what you need.

I’m not using that on my laptop.
