I use my fire TV to access my plex media library. About half the time I play server music and half watching TV or server videos. Killing the music from the fire app is not why Started using a dozen years ago. I bought plex pass. And invested in a serious server. 80 GB server. All around being able to access ALL my media in one place.
Plexamp is great. I use it every day. But dropping an all-in-one media center access OPTION is nonsensical.
Guess I have to look to jellyfish or something else now.
Ple, my old friend, I think you’ll soon be dead to me.
They announced that they are planning to reintegrate music and photos with the main app. They haven’t given any indication of when that will happen though.
If this is about a VegaOS FireTV device, it’s a slightly different context, but to the same outcome. Native music & photos support is supposed to be added in the future too.
See the document @tom80H linked. The device is crippled WRT Plex playback. No HEVC, so no HDR. Limited to 7 Mbps video, so effectively no 4K. Many, if not most, videos will transcode.
Basically, avoid any devices that run Amazon’s new Vega OS.
The Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025) also runs FireOS. I’ve no direct experience with it, but based on it specifications, it should also work well with Plex.
I’ve no hands-on, but many people like the onn 4K Pro streaming box as well.
