Hello
I would like to watch movies from my server on my iPhone/iPad on the way. After installation, I am asked to take out a subscription for 5.99€/mgl. Why is this so? I thought Plex was free?
If I don’t take out the subscription, I won’t be able to stream movies from my server.
Are there costs for each device? And what about my children’s devices that are in the family account? Do my children also have to pay €5.99/month each?
Best regards
The relevant details: Plex charges to use the mobile apps. You only need to pay once to unlock the app, and it will remain unlocked forever on that particular store account (iOS or Android).
-If you pay to unlock it on your iphone and have another ipad on the same iOS account, you can use Plex free on that device without any further purchase.
-If you have two android phones both using the same Google store account, You only need to pay to unlock it once to unlock it for both devices.
-If you have an iphone and an android tablet, you must pay to unlock in both stores in order to use Plex on both devices. There is no cross-store purchases.
You can still use Plex free if you visit the browser-based app on app.plex.tv in your iphone/android, but the GUI is designed for desktop and the text will be tiny. You can still use any smart TV or non-mobile android-based TV box (such as Nvidia Shield) for free. You can install and use the Plex app for Windows for free.
Free unlocking of mobile devices is included in the Plex Pass, which gives you additional functionality for your server such as DVR recording from a networked TV Tuner, intro and credit skips, and more. Plex Pass has a monthly subscription, or you can purchase a lifetime subscription for a one-time purchase, which can sometimes be discounted around some holidays.
