What causes QNAP to change it's share URL?

Server Version#: N/A
Player Version#: N/A

I have noticed sometimes when I add a shared folder to Plex on a QNAP NAS, sometimes folder can be found under:

share/Media Collection/Movies

and other times the only option in the Plex folder picker is:

CACHEDEV1_DATA/Media Collection/Movies

The “share” parent folder isn’t visible in the Plex dialog, but after browsing into CACHEDEV1_DATA the “share” parent folder gets inserted automatically for a path that looks like:

share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Media Collection/Movies

Does anyone know what is causing the difference?

Are you using the Multimedia shared folder with the Codex Pack?

Those two, specifically Codex Pack, are known to change the apparent location.

Changing of /share/Folder to requiring /share/CACHDEVx_DATA/Folder is also related to the sharing permissions of the shared folder itself.

If the shared folder isn’t shared for SMB or NFS then it won’t be listed under /share/SharedFolderName

I’ve never seen or heard of the Codex Pack. Unless one of the apps installs that behind the scene then I doubt that is being used.

I haven’t changed any folder permissions in years. Whatever is causing the change happens randomly. I didn’t notice it until I had added some libraries and then months later added another folder to the library and the path had the CACHEDEV in there. At that time I assumed it was just one of the OS upgrades made some changes.

Then later I added a new library and found the old share/Folder string back like it originally was.

Then just today I was going to add a new library again, and the CACHEDEV folder path is back.

I figured there has to be something besides server upgrades causing it.
