What determines info under poster

Hi all,

What determines what is displayed under a Movie Poster. eg: The poster below has the year followed by the text 4K Version, while other devices are just showing the year for the same Movie.

The text next to the year is the Edition.
You can manually assign edition details when editing an item or have Plex pick that information from the file name (e.g. Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance (2022) {edition-4K Version}). If no edition is set, you’ll only get to see the year.

Usually, editions refer to different cuts/editions – not necessarily different qualities of the same movie.

Side note… you’ll notice that the subtitle/label will change as you change the sort order of your library – e.g. if you order by release date, Plex will display the actual release date; if you order by a rating, that rating will be displayed below the poster/title…

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, the text next to the year is the Edition, however why do some clients/devices show that text and others do not?

EDIT: All devices with the same sort order too.

Which client do you have that it does not? The only one off the top of my head that might not is the Plex Kodi plugin but that is more of a side project which does not get updated often.

When I’m logged into PMS Version 1.30.2.6563 using Web Client Version 4.87.2

the local web app is pretty old. i believe did not start showing in the grid under posters til around 4.92.x, the current at app.plex.tv is 4.100.1

Thanks for your reply.

Looks like I’m stuck with it then, unless there’s a way to update.

You could just use https://app.plex.tv or the dedicated desktop app that has the same interface ( and can play more file types natively)

Yes, that will be the best option.

Once again you have helped this old timer. It is truely appreciated and thanks again. Have a great day
