What happens to sonic analysis when you move music to a new hard drive?

Server Version#: 1.24.1.4931

I’m currently running the sonic analysis which is going fine, it’s taking a while but that seems to be normal. I’ve only recently switched from running the server on a Shield TV to running on a PC I bought second hand. I want to upgrade the HDDs inside to larger capacity, will this mean I have to run sonic analysis again? Can the data be migrated along with the library?

If the total number of hard drives stays the same, you can avoid any trouble if you

  1. don’t do any other reorganization of your media files, like renaming files and folders, merge or split the contents of folders
  2. keep the Plex server off during all file operations
  3. note down which media were on which drive letter
  4. copy the media from old to new drive
  5. remove the old drive
  6. assign the same drive letter which the old drive had to the new one which took its data

Thanks, that worked.

I’ve got my server setup with movies and music. I want to turn that machine into an ad-hoc system for the movies and migrate the music to another lower power consumption machine to remain on 24/7.

I presume if I follow the standard migration instructions all the sonic data will be available as the laptop?

Also, would I run into any issues after the migration with it only being music that is now available. I mean, I will re-create the storage with the exact structure and drive letter mapping as the main server but there will be no movies on the laptop?
