i have a question i have a shield server and ive been getting a lot of problems with it like live tv recording and also local media assets. I also have a mycloudhome that can handle plex is there any benefits on each side and also all my media has been through handbrake so there no massive files biggest file i have is probably 5gb lol
anyway yer which is better

I don’t do live tv but I do run a server on a win 10 laptop and NVIDIA shield. I hear too many problems with running it on the WD NAS as it basically can only direct stream. Also if you expand your storage, I believe the WD NAS PMS will not be able to read media elsewhere where the shield can read media from multiple NASs if you expand.
Just wanted to chime in here as well. I used to run my PMS off of my My Cloud Home, but it was terrible. I could barely stream anything and it caused me to not use Plex as much as I would have liked. I toyed with the idea of running my main server on a computer, but didn’t want it running 24/7. So I did some research and ended up buying the Shield and have used it ever since.
I don’t use Live TV, so I can’t speak for that particular area, but I would say running PMS on the Shield is a good choice. It can Direct Play just about anything and that way you can strictly use your My Cloud Home as a NAS, and it won’t be causing problems with streaming.
The Shield might have a slight advantage due to its computing power.
But in my personal opinion: both are rather poor server platforms.
Both are running Android, which is rather “locked down” so you cannot customize your installation or install additional tools etc.
The WD is even so much locked down, that it doesn’t allow you to create custom/additional libraries and change the folders which are connected to a library.
(implemented that way upon WD’s explicit request)
The Shield might be OK for a small-ish collection with only a few items.
But as your collection grows in size, you sooner or later want adequate hardware for your server.
think im getting that problem with space on my shield already when it comes to live TV i try to record and it say not enough space for my recording to start so i think its cause its the 16gb model
