What is wrong with my folder structure?

Server Version#: 1.24.3.5033
Player Version#:

Plex is behaving strange…

Refer to attached screen captudre of my folder structure.

In plex server I sort by folder.

Example…

I select to play COMEDY/COUPLING
Select Season 1
I now see episodes of BLACK BOOKS
Select one of those episodes and it plays an episode of PEEP SHOW

there doesn’t appear to be any screenshot attached.

you can drag/drop directly into a post, or copy/paste as well.

no need to use any 3rd party hosting.

also, please see plex naming guidelines.

specifically;

/TV Shows/ShowName/Season 02/ShowName – s02e17 – Optional_Info.ext

if for whatever reason you have

/TV Shows/COMEDY/ShowName/Season 02/ShowName – s02e17 – Optional_Info.ext

then you should change the library paths to include the comedy folder,

like

/TV Shows/COMEDY

instead of just

/TV Shows

sorry, added now

the additional comedy folder you have is causing the problem, see my edit above

if you have other sub folders, you can add each path individually to a library.

otherwise, you should simply remove the comedy sub folder, and move everything up one folder level into tv shows.

example tv library with multiple paths

awesome, so does plex use tags for genre?

generally no, plex uses a combination of metadata sources like imdb and tvdb to get its metadata.

it can also pull some metadata from certain video file types, but that isn’t really recommended.

OK, could I set up multiple tv show folders at that top level, example

TV series - comedy
TV series - drama
etc?

yeah if you like.

you could do either as a library path

/tv shows - comedy
/tv shows - drama

or

/tv shows/comedy
/tv shows/drama

also, as far as embedded tags, you can enable/disable that in the library advanced options, not all tags/file types are supported though (I think mainly m4v/mkv)

GOT IT

Thanks you have been a great help.
