Hi Plex,
Being in my late 50’s I have watched the growth of the computer age and have tried to learn as the technology has developed. With no formal training or attempt to do anything other than read answers to googled questions when problems arise, I find myself with the following queries.
Background
After replacing my motherboard and reinstalling software 08/2017, my Plex is different.
I run a playstation 3 with a Pc on windows 10 which contains large storage for movies (mostly MP4) that previously with plex server and home theatre installed. Allowed wireless access on my playstation (hooked up to projector) to play movies. The interface was good with art work, film descriptions etc and although my indexing was not great, i was very pleased with my set up.
Now with the new plex install the interface has gone with no art work or information. I can still play movies but I know it can be better which is why I have this query- what options do i have to improve things?
How much should i spend?
Money can shape your world if you let it. So I like to keep a good grip. Do I look for a software solution spending time updating my own registry/interface?
Is a plex subscription the answer?
I guess this Kodi stuff may be responsible, but who knows. I appreciate some advice as you will know more than me and I have enjoyed the way plex has worked in the past. Thanks donald
What Kodi stuff are you referring to?
Could you please make a screen shot of how your library is looking like now?
While a Plex Pass subscription is welcome, it has nothing to do with how your library gets metadata (or not, in this case).

yea, no idea what Kodi is but thought it might show some knowledge (shame on me).
I have attached a screen shot of my page that show empty boxes and random pictures when it was previously so much better with proper film pictures and info about films. when I reset my pc all files kept but software removed/inactivated. not sure how to get back to how it was.

First thing to do:
Quit Plex server from the tray icon
Go to the Windows control panel ‘Apps’ and deinstall Plex server
Reboot Windows
download a fresh installer file from the ‘Download’ link above and install it
Wait a few minutes after starting Plex
then try ‘Refresh Metadata’ on one of the movies.
Wait another 2 or 3 minutes
For further investigation, we need to collect some info:
move your mouse over the ‘Films’ library on the left screen side
and click on the ellipsis ( . . . )
‘Edit’ this library
go to the ‘Add folders’ tab and make a note which folder path is referenced there
Then go to one of your movies and pull up the Plex XML info from it.
Copy and paste it into a post here
put triple ` (backticks) before and after the XML to make it appear properly formatted

My guess: were you up to date with Plex Server before reinstalling everything? It looks like Plex indexing became more strict some times ago, and many mis-named files that were easily recognized with old versions of PMS are not recognized anymore. OttoKerner is giving you the correct hints on how to debug this, my guess is that it’s a naming issue with respect to Plex naming guidelines…
