What to expect for live TV

So I just setup the DVR service and found my hdhomerun device just fine. I even did a DVR recording that worked fine and I was able to see it after the fact and play it however for the life of me I dont see anywhere that I can watch live TV with Plex and I dont see any articles overall giving the users a what to expect other than its supported on Android and Iphone. The channel guide looks awesome, it shows whats coming up, whats playing now but no way to watch anything live. I downloaded and also ran the latest install of plex server just in case and changed the server settings update channel plex but still no change live tv.

  • I dont see live TV options in my browser even though I can stream directly to the device fine. Is this expected?
  • I dont see live TV options on any android device I have tried. (tablet, multiple phones, etc)
  • Is it expected to be able to watch live TV remotely with Plex (via transcoding, etc)
  • Is there a simple timeline ETA on any other device support of when it will be available (e.g Roku, etc)

If you read the release notes all these questions are answered. Not to worry though it doesn’t work. Use the HDHR channel if you want live TV. MUCH more reliable!!!

  1. Yes, this is expected. Live TV is only supported on iOS devices and Android TV devices (not Android apps and not Apple TV)
  2. Yes, see above
  3. Yes, with the proper app. I have had varying degrees of success though using an iPad (supported)
  4. Plex never gives timelines on any development. The other platforms will get here when they get here.

(No offense but “latest install of Plex server” means nothing. What version are you actually running?)

Yes, as the FAQ mentions Live TV Is only supported on iOS and Android TV not in a web browser.

Correct. Live TV is only supported on iOS and Android TV not Android mobile devices.

  • Is it expected to be able to watch live TV remotely with Plex (via transcoding, etc)

Yes depending on the upload bandwidth of your home internet connection and the connection you are using. I have streamed Live TV away from home.

  • Is there a simple timeline ETA on any other device support of when it will be available (e.g Roku, etc)

Plex does not give ETA’s on when new features/device support will be released.

Latest meaning the latest available on the plex site since this message ;)…
Version 1.7.3.3937 is what I downloaded and installed just before setting up the DVR.
